All are invited to attend a special reception to honor North Dakota's New Poet Laureate, Dr. Denise Lajimodiere on July 27, 2023, in the Jack Fiddler Auditorium at the Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC) in Belcourt, ND. Sponsored by TMCC, NDCA and the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Press, the event will recognize and honor this Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa (TMBC) citizen and former NDSU faculty member who has gained national attention for her scholarly and literary endeavors.
The celebration will begin with remarks from TMCC President Dr. Donna Brown, TMBC Tribal Chairman Jamie Azure, and NDCA Executive Director Kim Konikow, followed by a brief history of TMCC—now celebrating its 50th anniversary—by one of its founders, Dr. Gerald Carty Monette. A traditional Drum and Honor Song will be performed and then Denise will begin her remarks and read a handful of poems. The event will conclude with a luncheon, an opportunity to buy her books, and a chance to meet with Dr. Lajimodiere for an autograph.
