Derek Morin has been a teacher at Kindred Public School since 2007, teaching art and STEAM to students in grades 7-12. He works to create a learning environment where students can explore both artistic expression and various techniques while making connections between different subjects.
In 2016, he co-founded the Kindred Area Arts Partnership (KAAP), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on expanding access to the arts in the Kindred area. As a director, he oversees fundraising efforts, organizes community arts events, supports scholarships for local students, handles artist relations, coordinates Artist-in-Residence programs, and teaches youth and community art classes to the public.
From 2019 to 2022, Morin served as the South East Regional Coordinator for the North Dakota Art Education Association (NDAEA) during its reestablishment. He managed social media platforms, created promotional graphics for NDAEA events, and collaborated with educators to advocate for arts education and provide professional development opportunities.
Morin holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Minot State University. In his free time, he works as a graphic designer and as an artist specializing in charcoals and watermedia. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Mary and their two sons, Ethan and Blake.
