NDCA has received funding for North Dakota artists (up to 10 per Region) to participate in an ND Artist Training Cohort in each of the state's eight Regions. Each Cohort will be led by that Region's selected Arts Across the Prairie (AAP) artist, providing an opportunity for ND artists to learn from nationally prominent artists experienced in large-scale, permanent public art installations. There will be 3-4 rounds of training.
Training will take place both online and on-site. It will begin with a 1-2 hour workshop on public art and/or placemaking led by the region’s selected artist. Later, an approximately three-day, on-site workshop will be held. There, each Cohort member will learn directly from the fabrication and/or installation process. Additional online sessions may be proposed.
The goal of the Artist Training Cohort is to provide training for up to 80 ND artists to increase skill levels and capacity for public art production, thereby making them eligible for additional funding opportunities, both in North Dakota and nationally.
Eligibility:
This program is for those interested in learning from established public artists about placemaking and all aspects of public art production. North Dakota artists of all disciplines and levels of experience are encouraged to apply.
ND Artists are eligible to apply for all 8 Artist Training Cohorts, offered in 3-4 rounds. New applicants, however, will be considered first. Travel will be required for the on-site training. The timeline for on-site training is dependent upon shifting construction and installation timelines and will be determined in coordination with each region’s artist.
*Applicant must be 18 or older and cannot be enrolled as a full-time student.
Criteria for Review:
Representatives from NDCA will review applications and materials submitted. Ten artists will be selected for each region.
Applications will be scored on (with emphasis on 3 and 4):
- past activity as evidenced on resume/CV
- description of creative practice
- relevance to personal goals and learning outcomes
- desire for further growth
*Selections will be made without regard to race, religion, sex, disability, marital status, age, or national origin.
