Career Description
Linear Soils Surveys and Recommendations: Conducted on roadway improvement, reconstruction, and realignment projects:Research the construction history, maintenance history, and the existing geotechnical data associated with the proposed project area.Assist in developing a Geotechnical Investigation and Testing plan. Developing this plan includes identifying boring locations, sampling type, sampling frequency, and test types.Assist in developing recommendations to provide a subgrade that works efficiently in the pavement system. Deep Foundation Investigations and Reports:Conducted in areas where a structure is to be constructed, large embankment fills and any other areas that require in-situ soil properties.Research the geology, construction history, maintenance history, and the existing geotechnical data associated with the proposed project area.Assist in developing a Geotechnical Investigation and Testing plan. Developing this plan includes identifying boring locations, sampling type, sampling frequency, and test types.Assist in evaluating boring logs and test results to develop analyses and recommendations for projects for typical DOT bridge projects.Landslide Investigations and Recommendations:Conducted to investigate, monitor, develop and implement a mitigation plan.Research the geology, construction history, maintenance history, and the existing geotechnical data associated with the proposed project area.Assist in developing Geotechnical Investigation and Testing plan. Developing this plan includes identifying boring locations, sampling type, sampling frequency, and test types.Assist Field Crew with instrumentation installation. Read installed instrumentation and compile data raw data into reports.Assist in developing a slope stability model and construction specifications for relatively simple landslide projects.Intra-Divisional Support and Field Work:Respond to geotechnical questions and issues both in the field and during project development process.Assist in responding to district questions and concerns during earthwork construction activities. This can require site visits with district staff. Assist in developing Department Specifications for Geotechnical aspects of construction and plan development.Assist as necessary with Geotechnical Drilling operationsObserve construction of Geotechnical assets and innovative construction operationsRespond to Geotechnical field or maintenance issues as called upon.Geotechnical Studies and Research:Ensure that section practices are in accordance with the State of the Practice in the Geotechnical Field.Keep up to date with AASHTO LRFD and FHWA geotechnical design standards.Continue education and research in the geotechnical field.
Minimum Qualifications
Geotechnical Engineer IRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.Requires the eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.ND Class D driver's license Geotechnical Engineer IIRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.Completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.Two years of professional-level engineering work experienceND Class D driver's license Geotechnical Engineer IIIRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.Completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.Four years of professional-level engineering work experienceND Class D driver's license Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
