The historical interpreter will execute their responsibilities with a positive attitude, neat appearance, and friendly and pleasant demeanor toward all visitors at the state historic site. The successful applicant will:Actively listen to visitors, answer their questions, welcome and orient them, lead hands-on activities, assist with special events, and lead guided tours.Interpret site history enjoyably and accurately, making good use of research, training, and appropriate language and hands-on skills.Familiarize visitors with the State Historical Society mission and its other state historic sites.Assess and provide for visitors' special needs, such as appropriate services for the elderly, handicapped, and foreign visitors.Provide excellent customer service.Clean and tidy facilities including work areas, public areas, and bathrooms. Perform other light maintenance tasks which might include watering and weeding outdoor plantings, dusting, emptying trash receptacles, and painting.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to communicate with groups and individuals of diverse ages, interests, and perspectives, using appropriate language and hands-on skills.Ability to learn site history.Ability to work every other weekend per month. This position is being offered in the Division of Water Quality's Groundwater Protection Program. The Groundwater Protection Program protects and monitors groundwater quality and works towards restoration of groundwater that has been impacted by contaminants. This position will be responsible for groundwater quality sampling from monitoring wells across the state, entering data in water quality databases, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, procuring appropriate sampling containers and the preparation and preservation of samples for laboratory analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate majoring in biology, the environmental sciences, or in natural resource management with coursework in chemistry, biology, geology, ecology, or other related physical or natural science. This position is based in Bismarck; however, considerable travel, with overnight stays, will be required. Transportation and per diem reimbursement will be provided by the department. A good driving record with a valid driver's license is required. Experience with computers (Arcview, Office), GPS and maintenance of related equipment will be helpful. This position requires computer and data management capabilities.
